Another oldie hiding out in my inbox.. Hoory for old and sappy death RP!
"Mopani!" Safihi calls out after the boy as he rushes off, staring after him as he slips into the jungle and dissapears into the night. "I .. Goodbye, Mopani." The lioness offers, hoping upon all hope that her voice atleast travels to her grandson's ear. Again, she tries to rise, but finds that she has no more strength in her body, muscles shaking with saddnes, with fear, and again she lands heavily on the ground. In the still night, there are no sounds -- Wind, insects, nothing -- A long, tremolous sigh escapes her muzzle, eyes cast longingly into the t wilight sky above. "Mguuyasiku?" She softly calls agian, "I did want to find you, you know." The pangs of the heart are spilled, the ages of hidden emotion that always wanted to come forth now doing so, but too late..
Dark brown orbs of anguish watch Mopani trail off, but Mguu' doesn't bother to call him back. Perhaps a trace of jealousy still remains; that Safihi spent her time with her grandson, not her son, and treated Mopani as if he really were her son; and not Mguu's. Perhaps that's why he doesn't call the boy back; as if he knows that Safihi won't be here by the time he gets back. Perhaps it's better that way anyways ... but maybe Mguu' selfishly wants to claim these last few moments for himself. "Just lay down. You'll be fine." The words are automatic, by now, not a hint of conviction in them, only desperation. He abruptly breaks off, and a single tear works it's way down one of his cheeks. "Y-you did?" The slight stutter shows the break in his composure, and he doesn't even take a wild attempt to restore it.
"Yes." Her soft reply is given, carried on a slow, gentle breath. "I did." Safihi's body still shakes, perhaps pain, perhaps fear, but with great effort, she attempts to quell it. She knows her wrongs and she knows that the years of torture this family went through was her fault. There is no more blaming, for she's truly come to realize the truth in all of it. Her eyes fall from the skies, casting to the side, to her grown son, over shadowed by the tears. "I know what's going to happen.. I've known for days, weeks, however long ... I-I wanted to tell you, that.." She pauses, her throat caught with a hard twinge, a lump she must swallow to continue. "I-I'm sorry. What I've done, I know I've wronged you as a son, myself as a mother .. and Mopani," Here, soft grey eyes steal a long look at the night sky, " .. up there, as your father."
"It wasn't your fault, Mama ... " He chokes out amidst tears that start to stream steadily down his face. "Don't talk like that .. it'll be alright. I'm the one to blame ... I shouldn't have left you." His breath catches over his father's name, and, again, he's stricken. "You haven't! I have ... it was my fault, I shouldn't have left ... and then I never made it up to you after that ... " The words burble out, fast. " ... I never said how sorry I was ... that dad died ... and that I could never be the son you wanted to have .. the son you both wanted me to be ... " Tumbling between words, agony, and confusion, Mguu' watches his mother through eyes of pain and mist.
For a while, Safihi says nothing, her gaze focused upon the appearing stars that twinkle with a merriment that's void amidst the Kivuli lands. Her Mguu' speaks, her voice chokes and the lioness simply gives up with her composure, breaking down into helpless cries of pain and anguish. It's almost like an eternity, the lapse in which nothing is said, but soon enough, the elders' voice breaks through the tears. Her head cranes towards him, attempting to nuzzle her child, but he's still out of reach, "Please, Mguuyasiku. Please come here," begs she, years and years of hiding within herself now just too much to bear as her hunger and the injury she has sustained weaken her body to the point of destruction. "I may not meet Mopani in the skies, but atleaset let me make omends. Please."
He trails off, miserably. They've both made mistakes, and now it comes to this. Why? Why couldn't all of this have been said sooner? Why did it have to come to this ... Safihi's last moments of life? But, on request, he moves forwards, almost hesitant, as if he were unsure that this were really happening. All he's ever wanted in life was a mother; or someone who loved him. He found that in his children, and stapled himself to their presence. And Ewali, his foster-father, who loved him. His mate, somewhat -- although she's distanced from him now. But he never had a mother until now. The earthen male, so much like his father in appearance, but perhaps not in attitude; yet still with the same dark brown eyes, now filled with sorrow. "I'm sorry, mama," He whispers, before leaning forwards to nuzzle her quietly, tears washing down his cheeks.
"I'm sorry I was never the mother, and I'm sorry I never recognized the son that I always had.." Comes her reply, soft and quiet, like a secret she never wished to give up. Gratful, the female leans into the nuzzle, warm and loving despite the moist cheeks they both have from the tears that will not stop. "I'm so sorry, Mguuyasiku. I love you. I always have. Tell Mopani this when he returns, please." As she speaks, the lionesses voice grows softer, fainter and yet calmer as well. Her shaking grows less violent, her sobs less frequent all thought they still punctuate her voice. "I know that I'll always have a son... One I will always be proud of. One I'll always .. love." With her final word, a word a sad beauty, Safihi's breath slowly escapes her into the night air, taken away so softly. Her head gently sags against Mguuyasiku, her son's, the King of Kivuli. Her frail body lies still, her pain is gone; she has made her ammends and repaired the family she was torn from for so very long, if only for a fleeting second.
"I love you, too, mama." It's a quiet whisper spoken, a finality he finally releases as Safihi's life ebbs away, and she finally becomes still. But that's all that needs to be said -- all Mguu' ever really needed to say. And now it's heartfelt, said from the soul, when the lioness needed it most. Mguu' curls up against his dead kin, crying as if his heart would break; as if it were already broken. He stays there for what seems like an eternity -- he's not sure how long it is. But he finally manages to get up, staring through blearly eyes, before his gaze shifts upwards, to the heavens. "I love you both," He says, softly, without rancor, with understanding. With one last look at his mother's body, the earthen male disappears into the shadows, heart heavy.
