[Tyne] PolePole Stream
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

|| Tyne - Polepole Stream ||
<<------------------------------------------------------------------------->>
|| ||
|| The PolePole stream was named by a child, one of the Cubs of the Tyne||
|| Pride. Thus, this stream and its small lake towards the end is the ||
|| 'property' of the cubs of Tyne. Its water is slow moving and sluggish, ||
|| as well as shallow, perfect for cubs to play in and not get dragged ||
|| away. It weaves in the Umia Jungle, before ending in a small waterfall ||
|| and lake. ||

[IC ] Ukomobasi, The White Queen.
[IIC] Aitan, Pale King of Tyne
It's night. Somewhere after dinner but before the hour that marks night's midsection. The fireflies are out and about, glittering among the dense grasses. Among their glow, beside the stream, Uko stares into the small face of the water as it moves. Seated, her shoulders up, head dropped, it looks as though she is thinking. And deep in thought. Several fireflies line her ears and one even perches on her nose.
Midsection of night also marks a shift change for the King's of Tyne. Aitan is "off duty" so to say and gets to enjoy a bit of sleep before taking the dawn shift. The prospect of awakening just as the sun peeks above the horizon doesn't bother him however.. there's something comforting about seeing the sun set every evening and rise every morning. He pads back towards the cavern, following the trickeling stream. "Uko?" He says quietly, not wanting to suprise the lioness. "I thought you were back in the cavern." He smiles softly and alters his path towards her. Gently he blows on the firefly that has perched on her nose. It flies up into the air, light winking softly before disappearing into the grasses a ways away. Aitan's eyes follow the bug, waiting for Ukomobasi to reply.
Not surprised. One does not spend their life learning to hear the sounds of the grasses to be surprised by pawsteps that should be very familiar. And as the blow smooths over the top of her nose, she cracks a soft smile, head turning into him. The bridge of her nose brushes the underside of his jaw and she laughs quietly. "No. I'm always awake this time of night." She comments. "Did I worry you?" She asks, head pulled back and pale blues focusing on his face.
"I'm never worried about you..." Aitan laughs, and then corrects himself. "Well.. I /do/ worry, but I know I shouldn't." He grins and touches the tip of his nose to her, bangs falling across his eyes rakishly as he smirks. "I know you can take care of yourself." He looks back the way he came, ears pricking to the chirping of crickets and cicadas. "Such a quiet, peaceful night. I don't think I would mind every single night being like this."
"I don't mind it." His worrying. It's nice, actually. Her own bangs are neatly tucked off to the side and actually stay put for once. As he comes closer she leans, head tilted sideways against his mane. "You may need to take care of me a little, soon." She comments idly, followed quickly, conversationally by, "If they all were like this, we would lose our appreciation for them. I don't mind stormy nights."
Aitan grins at her again and sinks down onto his stomach, facing her. "Stormy nights are nice as well.. the land needs them to grow I suppose, but I would much rather spend those nights in the shelter of the mouth of the cavern, looking out on the rain... not patrolling the borders like I'm sure I would be." He chuckles, and then does a mental double take, his face registering a seemingly innocuous sentence. "Take care of you? What do you mean?"
She peers at him, a small smile reserved for little moments that are few and far between. A secretive, delighted grin. "I had hoped to take over the queen's duties for Waset while she tended her cubs, and then start back as a team when the cubs were old enough to be supervised by the other lionesses.. It seems, though, that Tyne's going to be short two queens for a while. For similar reasons." She says, dropping her gaze a moment, smile still present. "The healer's gone and confirmed it. Tyne will have princes and princesses through both Waset.. and me."
"Princes and princesses?" Aitan pauses, thinking this over. Poor guy.. he doesn't quite get it. Wait...here it comes... there is a flicker of intelligence in his male mind after all! "You mean..? You're...? I'm gonna be...?" He stutters, almost unable to get the words past his huge goofy grin. "I'm going to be a dad?" He manages to blurt out finally. "Oh Ukomo! I'm so happy!" He kisses her muzzle.
Bowing her head to the kisses, Ukomo's laughter bubbles out long and loud, and filled, mostly, with joy. "Yah. That y'are. I'm not.. quite sure how this all works out, but.. eventually, yes. You'll be a da. Hard t'tell to how many at this point." Considering 'this point' has Ukomo looking like she normally does, only more tired and with a very small amount of pudge to her. Huh.
Aitan laughs as well... his happiness overwhelmingly obvious. He bounces around Ukomobasi like a cub himself. He lightly kisses her side. "Think of it! Us... parents?" He laughs. "We'll have to enlist a good babysitter if Elim and I are any clue of how they'll be!" He pauses for a second, letting the idea of it sink in a little bit. "How long?" His eyes sparkle. "Are you okay? Do you feel sick or anything?"
"If I'm half as strict as my father was, they won't be at all bothersome. Normal cubs, you know. Behavior wise." She goes through the checklist. "Not.. sick, no. Tired. Very tired. Can't run as much as I'd like to, either, but that's to be expected. They keep kicking my ribs when I run, like they want me to knock it off." She laughs, rising and bumping heads with the male for a moment. "Not sure how long. Healer said that if they're kicking, it'll be relatively soon. Longer than days, but when they start moving around they start thinkin' of comin' out." Still, it troubles her. "I don't.. quite look like Waset does, though. That, the healer said, was a little strange. Most lionesses.. well, look like hippos with long tails. Don't tell Waset I said that."
"Hippos huh?" Aitan chuckles and rubs his head against her chest gently, afraid to jostle her too much. Apparently cubs on the way is the equivalent of being made out of glass. "You could never look like a hippo you know." He smirks, mouth turning up at the corner. "But if you did you'd be a very CUTE hippo!" His brows furrow. "If the healer says that you're doing alright.. I suppose that's good enough for me, but I want you to promise me you'll take it easy." He meets her eyes, trying to hold her gaze. "And if you need anything, I want you to tell me." His tail twitches, "Have you told anyone else yet?"
"I don't want to look like a hippo." She comments dryly, licking the top of his head as he bows his head against her. "I suppose. Healers know their stuff. So, I'm not all that concerned. And I will take it easy. I've no choice /but/ to. Whoever is in there doesn't like running at all, so.. Lots of walking for patrols, lately." She smiles, then, peering at him head on before brushing him cheek-to-cheek. "I will. I may be stubborn and self sufficient, but.. this is something I will need help with." She thinks, then shakes her head once. "Only my father. I.. was frightened, at first. Thought I was sick. Spoke with him. He said talk to the healer, so I did. Now, I'm telling you, now that I'm sure."
Gulp. Father... ahem. It's hard for a young male to think of a father having proof of well... that kind of stuff. Aitan shakes his head, brushing away an image of his torn and disemboweled body. "If you want your father to be there for the birth... well not there for the actual /birth/ of course, but near for it. He is welcome to stay with us." He assures her. "Anything that will make this easier for you.. you have only to ask." He smiles. "Are you up to telling everyone else? They were all gathered a little ways from here a bit ago. We can wait though, if you prefer."
The gulp is expected. "He trusts you, you know. Else he would not have given his blessing." She comments, grinning. "I will send word to him. He is always welcome here, but he does have duties to Kivuli that I wouldn't want to selfishly pull him from." She bumps her head against him again, appreciatively. "I think we should. No use keeping it a secret. We'll need to make arrangements so that there's at least /some/ relief for Waset and my duties while we're both busy with cubs. Shall we?" She stands, turning toward the direction voices rise from.
