[Kivuli] Lake
For generations, Kivuli Lake has been the largest source of water available for the local population. And yet the dry season, which has turned the river into hardly more than a slight trickle and the water hole to gunky sludge, has vastly drained the once great lake. Oh, it still has a fair amount of water in it, but never in recent memory has it ever been so low. Khamisa is wandering the cracked earth of the lake shore, blinking in wonder. The earth beneath her paws was once several tail lengths out into the lake. The water here was once over her head, she's sure. And now.. now, she's walking there, and the ground beneath her paws is completely dry and cracked. "Great Kings," the lioness murmurs to herself, walking by a pile of long since dead fish. "What on earth has brought all this upon us?" It's creepy. And she, pride historian such as she is, can't even recall any tales of any dry seasons of long past being this bad. Very worrisome. Very worrisome indeed.
"WHy thankyou but no, I'm not a great King," comes a deep voice off to the side. Attie, as usual, has been trailing his baby sister. With the recent dry spell he's become once again very over protective of her. Can you blame him? With Miz' doin all the kingly thing, Atreyu has to do /something/ useful. The pale lord wanders slowly over the cracked earth, pale eyes taking it all in with a rather calm and emotionless face. As he nears his sisters side the male noses her shoulder gently, "You doin ok Khams?" A brow arches and he smiles crookedly, ears rotating fowards before he slowly, and very unwillingly, lets his attention shift to the water hole that should be drenching them from head to toe. He doesn't answer her question because well... he has no idea. And for now, the pale lord remains silent, something about as rare as the bad dry spell that's suddenly plauged them.
No.. there has not been a dry season like this, not that Lutalo can remember. The large lioness is slowly making her way across the dry eart that was once the lake. Mud clings to her, which was once wet but is now hard and dry which clings to her legs, and underside, along with her face showing she DID find some water but is was all icky/dirty but she was thirsty so didn't care. "Hey Kids." This said with a joking tone as the larger cousin makes her way towards the pair, maw parting as she takes in a shakey breath, whiskers quivering and ears perking forward.
The dry, reedy grasses near where Khamisa and Atreyu now stand shudder as if in a soft breeze, then the short, furred tank that is Malaya steps out into plain view. Her hard gaze narrows in the direction of the other leonines, both of whom she can remember seeing once or twice from afar during her sojourn in these lands. Hearing Khamisa's murmered question, Malaya rolls her eyes and seeks to slink away from the Lord and Lady, closer to the retreating shoreline. As she catches sight of Lutalo, the barbary female flattens her ears and hesitates, but then continues doggedly on her pursuit of a drink. d**n pridals. They multiply like fleas.
Except for one. A male sit patiently in the distance, blue eyes narrowed to slits and a faint scowl upon his features. Not at those in the pride, but the pride structure itself and the lake he's staring at. Mdjai silently berates whoever posted the sentrys and also the darned weather. A good pride should have good sentrys, he shouldn't have been able to make it past the border. But he did, and he's here, and he feels that's reason enough. The scent of water had perked his interest enough to cause him to trespass across the border, but the leonines in the distance have kept him at bay. Eyes shift to each new face and his scarred shoulders roll in a bored idle shrug. Grunt. The male flicks an ear fowards and simply sits, a golden statue in the distance.
A blonde muzzle lifts high above the dry dead grasses. It snorts loudly, before lowering. Water. Finally water. Suez moves slowly down the dry cracked riverbed. As he draws closer to the lake his gaze becomes fixed. He ignores all other creatures here, they do not matter- only the water. Once he reaches the far side of the lake the great animal lowers his body slowly to the water's edge. He drinks slowly, his ribs sticking out from his side.
A delicate white-tipped ear gives a light flick and Khamisa turns a deadpanned look at her brother. Hardy har har, Atreyu. Dark lips quirk into a soft smirk a second later, though. "Puh. You're not a great /anything/, Attie." The petire lioness leans over to nuzzle Atreyu fondly, her words obviously meant in jest. "I am fine, though, yes. We still have water.." A pause as she glances to the much smaller body of water that they call a lake. "..for now. Although from what I hear from the other lionesses, hunting is starting to become a problem..." Of course. You lose water, you lose the prey. They, after all, are not tied to any lands, wandering freely hither and yon. They can follow the water. It's more difficult for a pride to do the same. Khamisa's attention is caught by another voice, and she turns her head to greet Lutalo with a small, warm smile and a faint dip of her head. "Lutalo. I hope the day finds you..." She pauses, taking in the state of the barbary, all muddy and dirty. "..er, well." Sudden movement out of the corner of her eye is caught, and Khamisa blinks at Suez's appearence. Uncertain - you never can tell with rogue sorts, which is certaintly what he looks like! - Khammy takes a few steps closer to Atreyu. The others - Malaya and Mdjai - are for the moment unseen by the young Lady of Kivuli.
The male snickers and nips his sisters neck fur lovingly, choosing to remain silent. He gives a soft 'Mmhm..' to her observtation and soon turns his attention to Lutalo. "Heya Luta'." He's so /royal/ isn't he. The perfect picture! Atties attention however is stolen just as fast as Suez makes his appearance and a protective step infront of Khamisa is made, ears flattening. A side of his maw lifts in a silent growl and the pale prince shows something he hasn't in a very very very long time; aggression. "/What/ are you doing?" comes the deep rummble in the direction of the rogue lion. HEY. It's a heat wave, they're loosing water, and his baby sister is in the area. /Who is/ this guy?? The other's are likewise unnoticed, all attention focused on the other.
Lutalo mms faintly while lifting her head and licks across her maw, tail lashing slowly while she watches her two cousins before grinning. "I'm fine.." She offers while her tail flicks and she tilts her head to the side while looking to Suez and watches him a few moments. "Evening Suez.." The lioness calls out before she looks to her her family. "His alright.." She thinks." Though the movement of another is what gets most of her attention and she spies Malaya and eyes the younger lioness while her ears lower. "Who's /that/?" As to Mdaji..well..his unseen for the moment.
Malaya squares her shoulders and darts the last few strides to the water's edge whereupon she lowers herself and begins to drink deeply. At the sound of a rumble seven-eighths the way to a growl, she looks up sharply and glares from Atreyu to the object of the Lord's hostility. She licks the excess water from her muzzle thoughtfully as she watches the two males, but quickly her attention returns to quenching her thirst. If a fight's about to errupt, she'd like to have had her fill of water beforehand. Malaya's sharp eyes continue to roam as she drinks, and they happen to light on Lutalo just as the older barbary is looking back. A small crease appears between one of her eyes and the long bridge of her nose, the smallest suggestion of a tucked-away snarl.
Interesting. The male remains seated in the distance, thirst almost driving him to brave the lake as well. However too much attention has been drawn from the locals to those seeking water so he decides to remain seated. As one of the other lionesses questions the presence of yet another female, and the male questions the other, Mdjai simply smirks. Pathetic. Ears twitch and his feet shift to get comfortable before the male cracks his neck and turns to glance in a different direction. He weighs the odds of him finding a different watering hole to get a drink, better yet, the odds of him surviving the heat to get there, and finally turns his attention back to the others. He'll wait and see.
The cool muddy water cases the blonde male to purr softly to himself. He had gone too long, much too long without food and water. If the wind didn't blow his way... Suez chooses not to think about it. Another thing he doesn't care to think much of is big loud lordly lions. Atreyu gets nothing more of a flick of the ear. Can't you see Suez is drinking!? His goldish eyes are half closed as he continues to sweep his great tongue over the muddy liquid.
And, uncertain as she may be when faced with unknown males not that far away, Khamisa still finds it in herself to 'tsk' at Atreyu. "Manners, Atreyu!" The lioness whispers loudly to him. "You're a /Lord/. Act like one!" Does he not remember anything they were taught by their parents?! Great Kings, but he's a pawful! Khamisa glances across to Suez's lack of reaction to her brother, then back to Atreyu. "See?" She hisses. "Try your /manners/!" Blinking at Lutalo, Khammy follows the barbary's gaze.. to yet another unknown leonine, though female this time. A quick glance between the two lionesses - Lutalo and Malaya - and Khamisa, feeling slightly more at ease dealing with an unknown female than an unknown male - steps away a pace or two from Atreyu. "Now, now, Lutalo. Be nice." She turns to Malaya, though she doesn't approach, and offers the younger female small smile. "It's OK.. go ahead and drink."
[ Khamisa goes AFK. ]
Atreyu snorts faintly and eyes the male. Well.. if Luta' says he's ok.... glare. -_-;;;; The kivuli lord keeps a close eye on the other male but allows him to drink before blinking and glancing in his sisters direction and the other females. Luta' has his baby sisters back so the male relaxes.. somewhat. He snorts, suddenly feeling pretty /useless/ and goes to watching Suez like a vulture. >_> Mdjai isn't noticed in the distance yet, but the lord begins to keep that creepy feeling he's being watched. <_< >_>
Be NICE?.. She..SHE JUST growled or something at Lutalo.. A snort escapes her while she lifts her head high and eyes Malaya faintly. See.. I'm /bigger/ then you so deal with it, or else.. Or else what? Who knows when it comes to Lu as she's a bit strange in the head. "What.. So you don't mind 'er drinking are water but you get all huffy when some male does?" This questions with a smirk while she glances to Khamisa, her torn ear lifting while her tail lashes, a bit of caked on mud coming off from the tip of her tail. As to Suez and Atreyu she doesn't pay attention, her gaze lifts as a new scent gets her attention and she looks off towards where Mdjai and lifts a brow.. "Who's /that/??" What is it whith visitors tonight?
Finally getting his fill the blonde lione looks about him. Does he see pridals? Well that is new. His charming smile returns to his face as he offers the scarred barbary lioness a nod. The male hidden among the grasses remains unseen. The Lord is still ignored. Suez isn't too pig-headed, but really.. Suez has had hairballs with a better mane then -that- guy. He stands up slowly, muddy water dripping from his proud mane-things!
Malaya snorts audibly at Lutalo's implied superiority. Yeah, whatever. Malaya may be short but she's tough and not to be underestimated. She mutters something or another that's PROBABLY not a blessing under her breath before she goes back to drinking. Finally she concludes her drink and sits back on her haunches, the picture of satiated contentment. Her large shoulderblades roll back in a stretch, her spine cricks and cracks a few times, and Malaya smirks at the pridals across the way.
What is it with rogues and their dislike for pridals? Mdjai's deal wasn't with the pridals themselves, simply pridal structure. A militaristic male, they seem weak, they seem vulnerable, and they seem lost in their own lands. The male shakes his head and it is then he catches the larger lioness gaze in the distance. He holds it, a look of calm confidence, and simply sits there. He's no reason to come any further, and if they really have a problem they'll come to him. Mdjai runs a dry tounge across his nose and rummbles a deep sound within his chest. Petty bickering is not how he likes to spend his evenings, thankyou very much.
Hey?! HEY! Atreyu is a /stud/ mkay?! And his mane is PERFECT. .___. Attie watches Suez silently before grunting and sliding back upon his haunches. As long as no harm comes to Khamisa the lord will deal with it. The weather just has him hot under the closer.. er.. fur. Gaze shifts to the other female and her smug look and he smirks faintly, Ooooo Luta' is gunna have a /fit/. But it's then that the barbary lioness question gets to him and pale gaze catches sight of the lion is the distance. WHAT THE HECK! They're multiplying! >_> Stayawayfromourwater. ;___; The lord shifts his weight and grunts idly, remaining where he is for now but gaze sliding from the golden male before him to the one in the distance. >_> <_< >_>
Forget fit.. she is going to do more then that.. Lutalo turns and starts to move towards Malaya seems words shall be SAID and who knows what else. Something is ticking in Lu's mind and its not about what prey there is to be found and how the water is. No one snorts/snarl/growls/etc. at her and normally gets away with it. She is special you know? As to Suez and Mdjai there ignored now with her full attention on the other barbary female.
Suez lets his gaze slide off the scarred lioness to the lord for a moment. Clearly the lesser mane is uneased by Suez's awsome presence! Needing to clean the mud off his fur, Suez turns and starts to walk away the way he came. This guys has stricked grooming requirements and he doesn't need furs peeping at him! His gaze again snaps towards Lu' as she charges towards another female? Blonde ears pin to Suez's skull. Females fighting, it is mighty time for this puuuuuuuurfect hide to make his exit.
Suez has disconnected.
Her ears flatten tight to her skull and her eyes narrow to slits as the other lioness makes her approach. "/What/?" Malaya snaps, her muscles already tense and readying themselves for the impending fray. She gazes up at Lutalo, it's true, but height isn't everything and in bulk brawn Malaya would still make a very formidable opponant. Unlike Lutalo, Malaya doesn't shut out everyone else around. She keeps them all in her peripheral vision as she focuses hostile eyes on the approaching female.
The last thing he needs is a fight. The lord is up and headed for Lutalo and the other as soon as Suez is wandering off into the distance. Attie wasn't a small guy, he wasn't all bulk and brawn, but he could pull his weight. The male stops directly inbetween Malaya and Lutalo and fixes a calm golden stare on the barbary lioness. "Stop," he says calmly. A fight would on fluster his sister, and in the heat that is the last thing they needed. Besides, should Lutalo get hurt, the scarce water would make her healing even more difficult. "Please," he finally adds, a soft look overcoming his previously serious expression.
Lutalo isn't just height though, this lioness is pure muscle from the look of it. She might be bigger then some but she still has the stocky build to a degree. Oversized paws carry her forward closer to the other barbary. A tattered ear flicks at the question and she is about to answer the other female before her cousin comes up and her bright silver eyes turn to Atreyu.. BUT.. she seems to say, ears slicking back as a faint grumble escapes her while she looks back to Malaya and just snorts. Something is ticking in the back of her mind, and its nothing good from what her eyes are showing, and if it wasn't for her cousin she would be fighting. Fighting is what she's all about now, that and not caring about most other then the family she has left. Her tail snaps before the red feline turns and starts to stalk away..fine.. No fight it seems.
Mdjai watches from the distance and hrms softly. Interesting. He decides however to locate his water elsewhere and finally stands. Turning to leave the male casts a long glance over the others again before slowly wandering off into the surrounding area. He comes closer to Lutalo then the others as he does so, cornflower blue eyes glancing her way slightly before the tawny male slips into the shadows, intending to save his own intrance for another day.
The rogue female hadn't really realized how much she'd been /hoping/ for a fight until the possibility of having one slips away into nothing. Malaya's eyes follow the exchange between Atreyu and Lutalo, then trail after the latter's retreat. d**n, reads her posture as she slumps her shoulders ever so slightly. She was looking forward to that surge of adrenaline, the familiar movements of muscles in action, doing what they were made to do. But petty insults and anything else that would hint at the restless desperation Malaya's feeling right now are repressed. She simply glares at all these stupid pridals.
The lord watches as LUtalo storms off to be on her own and simply sighs. His attention slips to the dissapereing unknown male and finally to Malaya. Her glare is returned with a simple tired stare. Oh please. Your looking at the /king/ of glares. The /king/ of hissy fits. And the /least/ pridal of all the leonines probably in Kivuli. Attie smirks faintly and finally turns and follows in Luta's footsteps and wanders off on his own. Wimminz. Pfft.
Lutalo pays no more attention to Atreyu and Malaya. She isn't mad at Atreyu, but she is mad at Malaya an for no real reason, there's a surprize. Her gaze drifts to Mdjai and she lifts her head watching the lion a few moments while her maw parts.. She's curious about that one to say the least, with a flick of her tail she turns slowly following after the leaving male to find out where he is going.
Malaya maintains a stony glare under Atreyu's gaze but as soon as his back is turn she snaps her tail in irritation. Pushing herself to her paws, she decides that this is not the place she'd care to be right now. But more to emphasize the fact that she's not leaving out of FEAR, Malaya takes her own sweet time moving off into the brush. Hostile thoughts of Lutalo and how the desired fight could've played out infiltrate her brain as she takes her leave, moving off in the direction of the mountains.
