Characters:
Elimnyama, King of Tyne
Kamau, Lord of Tyne/Rebelling Heir
Mention of WASET, unconscious ex-Queen of Tyne
Where: [Tyne] Pridal Cavern
His announcement to the pride is over. Now Elim' can retire.. or so he thinks. In the dark interior of the pridal cavern the dark lion is simply a large, shuffling shadow meanering among smaller shadows that are sleeping pridemates. A few words are mumbled here and there, a passing greeting between a lioness and the king, but eventually Elim' works his way back to the more private alcove where Waset lies. He gazes down at her, eyes half-lidded in the dim light, and utters a soft sigh. "I'm here, love."
Kamau has taken only a moment to nod to other members of the pride after the announcement, and now he's made his way into the pridal cavern, following his older brother. As the young lion approaches the King and the unconscious ex-Queen, he starts to get a little shifty. Uneasy. A lot less sure of himself than he was a few minutes ago. But he's here now, so he figures he may as well get this over with. "Elimnyama," he greets, trying to sound casual even as he stands there by his sleeping sister-in-law.
Elimnyama is just sinking down, resolutely but sluggishly, onto his haunches beside Waset when he becomes aware of Kamau's presence. Ears shift forward and he turns an expression on his younger brother which conveys how drained by life he feels. What's Kamau come to say? Probably nothing he'll enjoy, Elim' decides with a private sigh. "Kamau," he replies dully, nodding. "Enjoy the ceremony?"
"Not really," Kamau replies honestly. "Hard to enjoy with half the pride missing." He starts shifting his feet and drops his eyes to the ground, since looking at either Waset or Elimnyama is a little much right now. When he takes a deep breath, a circle of dust rises from the cavern floor. "Listen," he finally says, figuring he may as well get it over with. "Onaedo and I are going to go find Sunny. We've gotten help in tracking the rogues' movements, I think I know where to go to find them. And I know we'll be back. But I... we won't go until Waset's..." he trails off, turning his eyes to the barbary lioness once more and having to swallow hard.
Elimnyama's pale eyes blink once in evident surprise, and for a moment this brings some life to his otherwise listless face. As he hears the reason, though, for why Kamau disliked the ceremony, the king shrugs slightly. "Well, those who did show up will spread the word. It's not like it was a big-deal thing like the coronation will be." For THAT event, the Tyne pride had better turn out in droves. Elim's expression, once it returns to a spiritless mask, does not change as he listens to the rest of what his brother says. Without thinking, as though he did not know exactly where they were going, he lets his eyes follow Kamau's to land upon Waset. "Right," he replies very quietly after a while, his sense of emotion apparently exhausted. "You'll probably be able to head out.. any day now, then."
Kamau slowly nods his head as his face continues to fall. "Most know already, as it is. But still. I would've expected more of our family memebers to be there." Oh well. That's the last thing on his list of 'what is wrong with the world' right now. Clearing his throat, he manages to turn back to his brother and regain at least part of his composure. "Is there anything I can do? Anything at all. I... want to help." And perhaps actually CONTRIBUTE something to the pride, other than a headache? What a novel idea.
"I'm sure they would've liked to be there." Elim' finds himself reassuring the other lion automatically, as if he's been programmed to do nothing but be a d**n parent to every single person he'll ever talk to, always ready to console and to make others feel better about their lives when they suck. Well, now his life sucks and nobody's coddling him, so they can all just deal with their own suckage for a while. Elim' watches Kamau coolly for a few moments until, with a sigh, he sinks onto his stomach and looks away from his brother. "What does it matter," he replies in a low rumble, sounding utterly defeated.
Except Kamau isn't actually too concerned with the stupid ceremony. Oh Elim'. And at the sudden 'everything is pointless' attitude from Elim', Kamau first looks surprised, then droops his ears and frowns over at his brother. Relaxing back onto his haunches, he sighs again. "Well obviously if /anything/ can be done, anything at all, it matters." Returning his pale eyes to Waset's form, he stares at her for a few silent moments. "I think she'd want her kids around. But Amahl is off with whatshisname, and Cyrus just tried to kill Onaedo and has been threatening to do the same to me. But I... I can go find Amahl, at least. He'd deserve to know." Even if Cyrus deserves to be exiled from Tyne's lands.
With his face still turned away from Kamau, Elim' shifts his muzzle until he succeeds in tucking it gently under one of Waset's ears. The heat radiating from her skin is uncomfortable to the touch, but he keeps pressed against it anyway. The king seems to be ignoring Kamau for some time until at long last Elim' finally gives a reaction. "Cyrus did what?" The rush of senseless anger associated with Elim's personality is slow in coming as he simply struggles to understand this piece of information. He'd heard some very, very strange rumors about his most elusive son, but nothing like this has ever reached his ears before. But then he's distracted as Kamau unexpectedly /offers/ to go and fetch Amahl. "You'd.. you'd go tell Amahl for me?" Elim's face is blank again but at least life has returned to it for now.
"He threatened to kill me awhile ago. Before the mess with Sunny started," Kamau explains with just a hint of his own annoyance. "And he attacked Onaedo the other day. That's probably why Ona wasn't at the ceremony, he was rather beat up. But there's this new lioness about, I guess she showed up and Cyrus ran off?" The young lord is a bit fuzzy on all of the details. "I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but he's... he's a bit out of control. Are you absolutely positive a hippo didn't drop him on his head when he was a cub?" Ha ha? Heh. Probably not the time for jokes, so rather than laugh Kamau just continues. "Of course I would. You can't go. Onaedo's in no shape to go. I never did get to go to Kivuli for Waset, it's probably something I should be doing anyway..."
"He threatened to /kill/ you? What- /seriously/?" Though he still lies on the floor, partially curled around Waset, Elim's body has gone stiff and the entireity of his attention is bolted to Kamau. At the news of Onaedo's encounter the grown lion's expression clouds over until angry peels of thunder can almost be heard in the distance. "I guess I've been pretty preoccupied, but I've never heard anything before now other than little rumors that he's been.. a little off for a while. I'd meant to talk to him. It's my fault, however he's turned out. He just never got as much attention." Never WANTED as much attention, more like. Not having seen Cyrus in quite some time and with so many other issues more pressing, it was pretty easy for Elim' to never really pursue a close fatherly bond with his son. "Is Onaedo alright?" is his next question, followed quickly by, "Do you know if Cyrus has hurt anyone else?"
"No, I don't think it's your fault. I mean, it would make sense for him to be angry with /me/. Jealousy over being chosen heir, or something. But Onaedo? We never bullied Cyrus much, he was always such a downer anyway, and Onaedo and I didn't get any more attention growing up than he did - less, probably - and Onaedo's never been chosen for anything over Cyrus. He's just gone completely bonkers, is all that's the matter." Just a minor case of psychosis that makes him want to murder his uncles. Kamau makes a face. "I don't know of any others, no. Onaedo..." he hesitates. "He will be alright. But we'll need a bit longer for him to recover again before we can go find Sunny." But that actually does have an up-point. If Kamau wasn't afraid that his getting hurt again and having to prolong the time it'll take to find Sunny AGAIN, he'd be off hunting Cyrus instead. Nobody hurts Onaedo and gets away with it. "But that's not something I can really deal with. So I'll go find Amahl, then? Is there anything else you'd like to tell the King of Kivuli while I'm there? Assuming I can find him in time, I imagine it will be a bit of a rush."
Bonkers, neh? Elimnyama pushes himself slowly to an upright and then a seated position, letting his eyes roam about the floor around his forepaws. "This is horrible," he murmurs after a moment. He doesn't know what he's going to have to do. Naturally he'll talk to Cyrus, track him down and see what the problem is.. maybe the boy's just acting out because he IS angry about not being picked as heir.. But what if it's not something that can be solved? What if his son really has just.. lost it? Elim' shakes his head and looks back at Kamau, the lines of his face softer now. "Thanks for telling me, Kamau. I'm really sorry my son's.. done these things. I'll find him and see what's going on as soon as I can." Prompted by his brother's words, Elim' turns his mind back to the thought of Kivuli and sighs. "If they can spare one, ask if they have a healer who can come and see her. I know it's how you and Onaedo got hurt and lost Sundali, but I wouldn't ask you to do it if it wasn't very, very important." He hesitates, watching Kamau, studying his face, trying to decide whether to tell him. At last, as Elim' lets his gaze drop to the ground again, he decides that whether it's appropriate or not, he's going to tell his little brother. "Waset's pregnant."
Kamau sits, silent and patient, as his brother figures out about Cyrus. It's really none of his business, yet, so he's all for letting Elimnyama handle this one. So long as it's handled, and his brother doesn't end up dead. "Of course. Though to be fair, it was Onaedo's idea to tell you." He was going to wait until after-Waset, but once Onaedo was attacked waiting didn't seem like the best option anymore. The young lord curls his tail loosely around his legs, and nods again when the talk circles back to Kivuli. "Alright. I'll do my best. And... I know. If I run into rogues again, I think I'll be better prepared to handle them this time. Even if I'm smaller than the one that took Sunny, I'd bet I'm faster." Meaning, he'd run if he had to. But his cool calm falls off at Elim's last announcement, and he goes wide-eyed as he turns back to Waset. "Really? More nieces and nephews?" He sounds excited until he realizes that she's /dying/, so... maybe no more nieces and nephews. Aww crap. "I'm so sorry, Elim'. I'll... I'll get going, right away." He's already getting to his feet as he tacks on, "Best of luck."
