Characters:
Kinamisa - Shy Jinjin'tau lioness.
Mizuka - Kivuli king who goes (He must be taking lessons from Amahl)
The sky has started to darken with the coming of night. This has already been an interesting day for Kinamisa, having met and spent the day with the King's brother. Now, the lioness makes her eay back towards the lake and the grasslands beyond. As a huntress, even a new one, it is her job to keep an eye on the herds and their movements. Still, her mind wanders back to the waterfall, to the strange and kind Lord of Kivuli, and she lets out a sigh as she walks, lost in her own thoughts and seemingly oblivious to the rest of the world.
Kivuli's patrol schedules are known only to its guards and king. At times it seems little wonder that Mizuka is so reclusive; the best place to find him is usually on one border or another. This isn't the case tonight, however--he's broken away from the eastern edge of the territory and is currently heading further into the lands at a quick pace, almost a jog. He's done for the day, apparently, and in a hurry to get somewhere. He takes very little care to be stealthy, and as a result it's not hard to miss the noise of some large predator crashing through the parched grasses.
As daydreamy as Kinamisa may be, she isn't so out of it that she doesn't notice the form of the Kivulian King as he makes his way across the lands. She blinks, pausing in her steps to tilt her head slightly and watch his progress. For a moment, she seems unsure if she should interrupt him, especially as he seems to have somewhere important to go. At the same time... she hadn't gotten a chance to speak to this king... her king now, it seems. So, the lioness clears her throat a little and steps forward, giving a chuff of sound in the direction of Mizuka, trying to get his attention. She certainly isn't loud, but at the same time, with no other sounds nearby, her voice carries. "Evening m'lord..."
Unfamiliar voices here aren't very out of the ordinary lately, with all their new...guests? Denizens? But that doesn't mean he's grown inattentive to strange calls and roars--not in the least. So the lion slides to a halt at once, looking over his shoulder, and for a moment his face is twisted into an expression that's almost pained, his mouth drawn thin. And then it vanishes as if he'd flicked some sort of switch, leaving in its place a stern, but fairly neutral stare. "Yes?" Mizuka replies gruffly. "Kinamisa, was it? Or Lilura? My apologies; the introductions that were made to me focused mainly on Ndalia and your ambassador." His voice is quick, staccato; he rattles off the apology like it's some sort of rote. "If you've something to discuss with me, may we do so as we walk?" More than likely, it's not really a question. He's quite a change from Atreyu, that's for certain.
"Kinamisa." The lioness responds, dropping into her usual, short and to the point way of talking. Her name didn't mean 'silence' for nothing, for she really prefered not to talk to most individuals. Atreyu seems to be one of the rare exceptions. Still, she nods her head curtly and breaks into a light jog to catch up with the King. "I apologize if I'm interrupting. I did want to have a word with you." As she moves, it's clear that the lioness is used to fast motion, keeping up with the herds and such, but she also isn't as composed or as poised as either Ndalia or the Ambassador. She's a hunter, not a politician. "Does Kivuli have a huntmistress?" She gets right down to business for the moment.
That nod is returned with one of his own, equally curt. Good. Mizuka does stay still a moment longer, allowing her to catch up, before he starts moving again. A little slower than before, perhaps, but he's definitely not strolling. "Not at the moment. In recent years Kivuli's become more of a garrison of knights and fighters than what one would call a typical pride." He's silent for a moment, heading into the treeline of the jungle. He can, of course, guess at why she wanted to speak with him now. "It's my understanding that the queen typically fills that position. How are Ndalia's hunting skills?"
Kina keeps up with the king easily, even if she has no real guess as to why he is in such a hurry. Then again, it's easy to imagine all the things that a royal has to keep track of. "In Jinjin'tau, the Queen isn't the huntmistress. Queens have too many other duties to handle both." As for Ndalia's skills, Kinamisa surely would never say anything bad about her princess in that matter. "Ndalia is quite capable. But I wish to suggest another for your consideration." Her ears fold backwards along her head, and from the tone of her own voice, it's clear she isn't talking about herself.
"There aren't many duties that Ndalia will need to split with me." Mizuka's voice is somewhat dry. He's well used to running the pride on his own, after all--maybe he just doesn't see the need for a partner to help him do what he's capable of doing by himself. "However, if you don't feel that she's the best candidate, I'm open to suggestions." He glances sidelong at the adolescent, his face unreadable. Hm. "Who /would/ you recommend, then?"
The young lioness seems slightly puzzled, as if she were not quite sure what to make of the lion's comments. "It is your choice, m'lord." She says simply, trotting along with her nose twitching in the air. "In Jinjin'tau, Lilura was next in line to become huntmistress." She doesn't mention at all that the King had chosen her to take that position instead. To her, it had always been a place meant for someone other than herself. "In the end, it is up to what you and the princess decide." She bows her head slightly, finding a great deal of difficulty having much empathy for this hard-faced king. "Thank you for your time, m'lord." Afterall, he doesn't seem much in the mood to have a conversation.
And as for Mizuka...well, who knows what he thinks of Kinamisa, or any of them? He hasn't given away a clue; whatever his true thoughts may be are hidden away under that emotionless mask he wears. "Very well. I will have to speak to both of them, naturally, but I will certainly take your opinion into consideration." He stops, little more than a shadow under the cover of the dead trees, and turns his head south. His tail is twitching a little; he seems tense. "Is there anything else?"
"That is all, m'lord." Kinamisa slows her pace slightly, showing that she's done with the talking for the moment. "I bid you good day." And then, the lioness stops her jog completely, allowing the King to continue on his way. She had said her peice, tried to make right what the King of Jinjin'tau had set wrong by choosing her instead of Lilura as future huntmistress. Now, everything was in the paws of the masked, king of Kivuli. Someone she could not read, and that does leave her with an unsure feeling. But there is nothing more to be done for it today. The girl lets out a small sigh of air, and then turns to jog back towards the grasslands.
"Good day." Mizuka's voice comes out in little more than an exhalation. The only thing that really shows through is his distraction; the nod he gives is very shallow, and he doesn't linger long after she turns to go. He does force himself to walk a few feet, listening to her footsteps retreat behind him, before he breaks into an all-out run--south, headed for the pridal cavern. Why is he in such a rush to get there? Who knows about /that/, either. He hasn't told any of the Jinjin'tau, and it's questionable whether he will.
