Where: [Tyne] Jungle Clearing
The sun is almost completely set, but Kamau still hasn't made it home. He's pacing back and forth off to the side of the clearing, still limping a little as he favors his left paw. The wounds he sustained fighting Xin are still very visible, but they are healing neatly and he /is/ getting better. He just isn't getting better fast enough for his tastes. It isn't doing much for his already typically-foul mood either, all this waiting. He's just become even more distant lately, not chatting with other guards while on duty and avoiding the pridal cavern as much as possible. And right now? He's just avoiding the pridal cavern even more. Sure Onaedo is alright, but with Sunny gone and Elimnyama trying to boss him around like he's still some practically-orphaned cub, he'd rather just not face it all. But in his current condition it doesn't seem like the best idea to him to stay out all night either. So he just keeps pacing, and pacing, and hoping he can continue it until everyone falls asleep.
With the coming of the night, there are some within the Tyne pride that are far more active. In her rogue days, Arazia would have chosen such a time to begin her hunting, but with the pride's head huntress ill, and the lionesses somewhat disparaged, the lioness takes to walking the lands... getting used to their feel. She had heard about the fight between Kamau, Onaedo and the rogues. Some had even looked at her suspiciously, as if questioning if she had anything to do with it. Luckily, it was easy enough to dissuage such worries... because she had been pridal, afterall, once. As she moves down through the jungle towards the clearing, the lioness pauses briefly, listening to the sound of pacing pawsteps. "You'll wear a rut in the ground if you keep that up." She says with a light, but somewhat concerned tone of voice, peeking just her head through a clump of thick foliage.
With the dense jungle not far off the figure of the young lioness was not noticeable until a few moments ago. She comes into the clearing slowly, limping slightly. There are remains of dried blood on her front right paw, and she is putting as little weight on it as she can while walking. Her head is up, though it droops every few steps as if holding it up is difficult for her. Her fur looks a little matted and scruffy, though it seems like she's been trying to keep herself clean. She pauses a few times, but keeps steadily moving further toward the Tyne pride's land.
At the sudden noises of other lions approaching, Kamau perks his ears up to pay more attention to his surroundings. Arazia catches his attention first and his eyes light up a little with instant recognition. Oh yea. That /rogue/ who /mocked/ him. How lovely. His ears drop back to lay flat against his head and he just goes right on pacing, swishing his tail back and forth in an agitated manner as he goes. "It's exercise," he comments moodily. "I'm sure the rut will forgive me." But that's when he hears a second noise coming through the jungle, and he actually pauses as he waits to stare in the direction that the noise is coming from. And rather than the recognition he showed Arazia, Zuri's appearance actually... surprises him? Though he has only seen maybe four young lionesses, tops, who were not a part of his family. Finding two of them in such a short amount of time catches the young lion a bit off guard. Frowning, he squares his shoulders and droops his head down as he looks this injured newcomer over. "Who are you?"
Of course, in Arazia's mind the situation is completely opposite. Kamau had been the one to mock her, and call her... of all things... old. Still, she isn't a lioness to hold grudges, and she nods her head slightly as she steps slowly out of the leafy undergrowth. "I'm sure it will. And... I'm sorry. You're understandably upset. I didn't mean to joke." Her ears fold backwards slightly, but then her attention is turned towards the appearance of the young lioness. The resemblance is certainly there, and that catches 'Zia more off-guard than the girl's injuries. "Are... are you alright?" Of course not... what was she saying? "Easy, easy... you're safe here." She says in a calming voice.
As soon as the other lions address her, Zuri straightens and places her injured paw on the ground. She walks more steadily, though her jaw is clenched tightly to block out any pain. Other than the injury to her paw though she doesn't seem hurt, just scruffy and a bit thin. Zuri doesn't answer either of them immediately. The lioness waits until she is closer to Kamau, though she does keep her distance. When she stops she lifts her head a little more to regard him. "Zuri," she begins, her voice calm. Then slowly she turns her head to look at the other lioness. Blinking, she is silent, taking in the resemblance between them as well, though it is not something she remarks on. "Yes, I'm fine. I was seperated from my sister," she explains briefly.
Kamau keeps on frowning, though he does briefly slant narrowed eyes back at Arazia as he tries to figure out if her new sincerity is genuine. Oh well, there are other matters at hand. Like how a younger version of Arazia appears to have just walked up. Though, Kamau supposes her paws are different? Still, there's more family resemblence between these two than between him and his own twin brother. It is a bit uncanny, even for him. "Zuri," he repeats, moving forward again to encircle the lioness and get a better look at her. He's still limping, but somehow his movements are swift. "Who is your sister, and where are you coming from?" There's still a slight distrusting edge to his voice, but he is trying very hard to give the newcomer the benefit of the doubt. There weren't any lionesses with the rogues he /doesn't/ like, so perhaps it's only male rogues he needs to be a jerk to? This young lord certainly has some thinking to do about such things.
Arazia opens her mouth as if she might say something, but Kamau's line of questions comes first, and she promptly closes it again. It's a strange feeling, dealing with others like this, especially for one who has been on her own for such a long time. "She's blood-kin." The lioness says, with more certainty than one would really expect. "You aren't... Kivuli." Zia seems to speak slowly, as if appraising the situation, "Perhaps Kimondo? From Kiyama's line?" For anyone who didn't have a clue about barbary ancestry, such a series of questions might seem a bit odd. Then, seeming to realize just how odd she actually is being, the lioness asks a more apt question. "Did the rogues near the border attack you? They... have already harmed a few here." At least she doesn't go into specifics, but she does give a small glance towards Kamau.
Again Zuri waits before speaking. Her green eyes settle on Kamau, and she looks like she may be appraising him, just as he is doing her while he circles her. "Sakina is my sister." She shakes her head at Arazia's question. "No, I am not Kivuli. I was born in Kimondo and yes, I'm from Kiyama's line." The young lioness seems almost a bit unsettled by Arazia's knowledge of her history and doesn't seem eager to offer up any extra information. But it does not seem that she is hiding anything either. "No, it was a buffalo. I told my sister to run, I stayed until she was safe. I couldn't find her after." She moves her gaze back to Kamau. Her contact with lions has been limited, especially younger lions.
Or young lions who recently got beat up? Kamau narrows his eyes and starts glancing between Arazia and Zuri, especially when Arazia seems to know so much about Zuri's history. "Kimondo?" he asks, having heard the name before but not sure where. Or maybe it was just a long time ago. Getting told stories as a kid? Who knows. "Do you two know each other?" he asks suspiciously, though he relaxes back onto his haunches so that he can rest his paws a little. Yet even then he lifts his head to take on a more regal posture than his previous sulking one. "Either way, do you realize you're on Tyne's Pridelands? I am Lord Kamau. My brother Elimnyama is the King here."
With a small sigh, Arazia nods her head and slowly lowers herself into a sitting position. Sometimes her slight lack of social skills shows through quite well, especially now it seems. "Kiyama was my grandfather. I thought I was the last of his blood-line." Timidly, the lioness tries to offer a smile, although her ears stay somewhat folded back. "It's good to see some others still remain. I'm Arazia... most everyone calls me 'Zia." She bows her head in gracious greeting, and then looks towards Kamau. "Kimondo was the name of the lands past the far borders of Kivuli. It was lost in the floods and fires... I think." She seems a bit unsure about that piece of history. "My mother told me about it when I was young."
"Yes," Zuri tells Kamau with a nod. She watches as he relaxes and there is a brief flicker of something in her eyes. Maybe longing or jealousy for being able to sit and relax so easily. But as these are not her lands she continues standing, pressure on her injured paw, though she does shift a little so that less weight rests on it. "I do, yes," she says with a nod. "I was hoping I could stay here. Without my sister, I'm alone," she tells him, bowing her head slightly. Then she turns back to Arazia and a small smile is offered in return. "He was my grandfather too. Faida was my mother." To the rest of it she just nods.
Kamau remains where he's seated, still flicking his pale eyes back and forth between the... what, cousins? How weird, he thinks, that they don't seem to know each other. The only example of cousins /he/ has is his nieces and nephews, and they grew up together. He turns his head for a brief moment to take in their surroundings, trying and failing to picture his home torn up in floods and fires, but he can't even begin to imagine. Of course, he figured from a very young age that there doesn't exist another land as perfect as Tyne. "Do you know how to hunt?" he asks Zuri, turning back to her once again to take in how slim she is. "Though if not, Waset can probably train you once she gets better. Waset is our huntmistress. And you might have to double-check with Elimnyama, but I guess it's alright by me if you stick around." He says it all quite casually, as if it makes no difference to him whether she stays or goes. Plus, he does find it rather sad that she doesn't even KNOW her cousin, and has been seperated from her sister. He doesn't know what he'd do without Onaedo. He's attempting sympathy.
Slowly, Arazia nods... filling in the family tree in her mind. She had heard of Faida, in some distant stories about her father's brothers and sisters. She had been raised in Kivuli, though, so never had much contact with that side of her family. But she certainly understands what it is like to be alone, and thus the lioness's eyes turn towards Kamau. "Elimn' had said that Tyne is in need of huntresses. At least... that's why he let me become part of the pride." As she looks back toawrds Zuri, the lioness tries lifts her head a little bit, "This is... a nice place to stay." Her voice drops just slightly, "Closer to home than I've had in seasons. I'm sure you'd be welcome here. Everyone seems nice enough." Yes, even Kamau included.
"I can hunt," Zuri tells Kamau confidently. She's still young though. She was still learning when her mother died. "I did the hunting for my sister and I. She wasn't a huntress." The lioness shifts a little more, still unwilling to sit. Kamau is again eyed curiously. "Thank you, Kamau." This is said more kindly than her other words. Meeting Arazia still seems to have her a bit unsettled or possibly unsure. Her eyes wash over the lioness carefully. The resemblance is there. She nods. "It was good to meet you. I didn't think anyone else was left either."
Kamau sits quietly for awhile as the lionesses keep talking, and his eyes slowly drift up towards Tyne Rock. The sun had finished setting while they talked. It might be safe to head up to the pridal cavern now. "Our pride's cave is right up there," he finally says, nodding up at the large rock structure. "You can talk to the other huntresses in the morning to find out about your place here, or talk to Elimnyama if you want. Just tell him I said it was probably alright for you to stay. There might be some food left over too, if you're hungry." And assuming his part here is done, he pushes himself back up to his feet to start walking up the hill.
'Zia could comment about Zuri's sister... her own mother having been a guard rather than a huntress, but something stops her. Perhaps she simply didn't wish to unnerve the girl any further this evening, especially with her silly questions and stories of the past. So, instead, Arazia slowly gets to her feet, watching Kamau for a moment, then looking towards Zuri. "I'm sure Kamau can show you the way. I need to go check on the herds." The rogues had been upsetting some of them, driving a few of the far-lying groups to stampede in recent days... but the shaggy lioness keeps that much to herself. "Good night, Kamau. Good night, Zuri." She speaks softly, and then bows her head before turning off in the direction of the savanna lands.
"Good night," Zuri replies, offering what seems like a smile of sorts to Zia before she goes off. She watches her...cousin go for a moment, before hesitantly looking back at Kamau. "I can find my way if you'd rather be alone," she tells him, not wanting to intrude. She seems unsure of what to do. Not unconfident, just unsure of how to interact with others, especially males.
Kamau slows down for a moment to glance over his shoulder and give the lioness an odd look. "I'm going to the /Pridal/ Cavern. Where the /Pride/ is. It's impossible to be alone there. Now hurry up, a lion can get lost for days in these lands if they don't know where they're going." Then turning back around, he speeds up a little as he limps his way on home. He'll just hope he wakes up early enough to disappear again before anyone can bother him about what happened. And soon, so soon, he and Onaedo can run off to finally save their friend.
Zuri just sort of looks at him for a moment, as if she doesn't understand the concept of it being impossible to be alone. It's been so long. But she does follow. She hurries after him, trying to limp as little as possible. She does not want it to appear she is incapable. "Is the King your only brother?" she asks him after a while. It's a hesitant question and as she asks it she watches him out of the corner of her eye.
"No," Kamau answers without stopping or slowing his pace. "Elimnyama and Aitan are my two older brother, and Onaedo is my twin brother. Not that we look much alike. I used to have some sisters too, but I think they died." He doesn't sound quite as upset about his sisters though. For all he knows they actually just wandered off and are out not being proper young Ladies of Tyne. Once they're up the hill, he nods once to the guard and just continues to the cavern, not offering up anything to continue the conversation.
Zuri just nods, not asking any more questions, not even about his sisters. She just follows along as Kamau nods to the guard. "Are there many lions here?" she asks curiously, looking away from him and around the lands as they walk.
"Sure are. But you'll be alright." Kamau pauses by the entrance of the cavern, looking around at all of the sleeping bodies within. "Just don't wake anyone," he whispers, and then he's walking off to step carefully between the bodies, leaving Zuri to find her own space to sleep in. He'll go curl up near Ona, himself, out of the sheer habit of having done so ever since the two were newborns.
