Unzumi's Guide to What Not to Name Your Dog AKA: The Most Common Names at the Kennel So, I decided to compile this for ya'll, partly for fun and partly because I'm really tired of seeing the same dog names on different dogs. As with most of my writing, this is rather tongue-in-cheek. Here we go: Bailey: Any breed, really, although particularly annoying for yellow labs and any terrier. If it's a run on Bailey's Irish Cream.. well, it's been run into the ground. And besides, I'd rather drink it. Buddy: This just screams "I don't know what to name my dog." See also: Spike and Spot. Boring. Hearshy/Hershey: If I see one more chocolate lab named after, well, a chocolate bar, I'm going to hurt someone. Keesha: For a Keeshound, NOT original; for a Shepard, simply too common to warrent a worthy name. Scratch it. Lucky: For black labs especially, nono. See also: Buddy, Spike, and Spot. (Thanks, Vel!) Rocky: Not a fun name for Boxers, particularly, or Shepards. Especially if they're not tough, evil, bite your face off dogs. Sadie: Across all breeds, this is a big nono. I'm especially tired of seeing Golden Retrievers with this name. Sarge: Particularly boring for German Shepards as is any military-esque name, Corporal, Major, or General. Scruffy: For terriers this is not allowed. Yes, they look Scruffy, but I bet they hate the constant reminder of what their coat feels like. I'm sure they know. Shadow: Any black lab. Been there, done that. Other dis-allowed black lab names include Bandit, Blackie, Midnight, Oreo, and Shade. Snoopy: If I see one more Beagle with this name, I'm going to hit somebody. Spike: ... I'll ... let you figure that one out for yourselves. Obvious, ne? Spot: See Buddy, and Spike (Thanks, Vel!) Updates to come.

Haha, I am proud to say none of my dogs have those names, although I have had two pets who have names related to drinks: Michelobe the cat (nicknamed Mickey), and Jaeger the boxer (even if he was named after the German word for 'hunter', since boxers are German dogs).

I'm proud to say that I haven't either. All my dogs have had other names compared to the ones listed. Not that they're bad. I just don't like 'em.

Shadow should be disallowed as any dog name. Not only have I seen it on one too many black labs.. but also on shepherds and goodness gracious is I see it on one more husky/malamute (or other wolf-ish breed) I'm gunna have to start taking hostages. XD Also, variations on Shadow (read: Silent Shadow, ShadowDancer, etc). Our current pets are Mugsy (chihuahua/pomeranian), Rizzo (cat) and Squint (dwarf hamster). Mugsy was named for Muggsy Bogues. Rizzo was named for Rizzo the Rat. And Squint was named because of my favorite tv show, Bones.

Shadow was the name of the Golden in 'Homeward Bound' so that might be it. I've also seen Shadow on a white shepherd. Shadow is used on just about anything, I guess. XD

XD OMG
I'm SO SORRY. I have two chocolate labs with the names Hershey and Mocha! HAHA. I didn't pick their names though. Doesn't help I have a horse named Coco. LOL
Oh, I have three cats with the worst non-original names too: Furball, Kitty Cat, and Trouble.
My instructor had a black lab named Shadow and a golden retreiver (who was red actuallyl) named Sebastian. We got their names so mixed up we just started calling them both Shebadow.

My other pets, past and present, have a mix of cliche and more original names. The cliche included Whiskers the cat and Sockes the cat (yes with an 'e', I was terrible at spelling when I got her), and besides Jaeger the boxer I have another dog named Klondike the samoyed (named after the polar bear, not the ice cream), and Jato the cat. Horses have had normal names, like Jane or Max(imus).
