ALSO, WARNING. Backup all your files before you install the demo... or, if possible, install on a different computer. Looks like EA managed to f**k things up - SURPRISE, SURPRISE - and the demo is causing issues, like removing store content and making games not playable. OH JOY. Luckily, it doesn't bother me as I'd lost my save ANYWAY, but just a heads up for you guys. D: None of my stuff is backed up because I was fully expecting them to make the demo SEPARATE from the main game and they did not, the two are connected. Hence the screwiness. See a full report here: forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/437793.pageSome quick screenshots as I've been messing around with CAP: Collie thing. I started with a blank slate dog that you modify yourself. Standing up, side view. Added chest/tummy/muzzle coloring, the patch over the left ear, the tail tip and the full body ticking. Wearing a collar! A bit hard to tell, maybe, but putting a collar on fluffy dogs squishes down their neck fluff around the collar, just like you'd expect it to on a real dog. Cat! Another one from scratch. A bit hard to tell, but to her base coat I added the tummy/chest color, a bit to her muzzle, there's a gradient thing on her back/shoulders and then the stripes which aren't at full opacity. Ahaha, zebra. <3 Just the full body zebra pattern, then I added some dark color on his muzzle and on his legs. Horse! Not completely from scratch, I used one of the pre-made coat colors and just adjusted it to my liking by adding white to her tummy, more white to her face, some pink on the end of her nose, I adjusted the color of her existing socks and changed the color of her mane/tail. The saddle came as is, but I took the pink from it to apply to the saddle cloth.

*SCREAMS* And this is why I was afraid of dolls as a child. Why would you do this, EA? WHY?? I hope there's room in the sob-corner, Elim, because I'll be seeing that thing and its nasty puppet walk behind my eyelids for a very long time. I'm glad your cat is okay, Annie! And that censor blur is...ridiculous. I don't even. WTB no mosaic mod for pets, plz. It is even more obnoxious than the giant censor blur when sims shower and I don't get the point of it since they have never done that before ever. Is it because cats and dogs both modestly crouch down when they relieve themselves, but horses just sorta stand there and they didn't want to animate a stream of blue weirdness appearing out of its Barbiecrotch? That's the only reason I can think of, and it is still ridiculous. That cat is adorable. I am digging the zebra, too, and the squooshy neck fur on long-haired animals. I still don't understand why the dogs with tiny legs can't have their tiny stubby legs, though. It could be a slider option, or, if that would mess with animations, an entirely separate "species" with adjusted interactions or something. I wanted to make a munchkin cat, but I guess that hope is dashed. Oh! Can you make sphynxes with that thing? I'd download it and test it out myself, but I've only got one computer and don't want my saves borked. Still haven't played the game recently (a good thing, since it means I didn't download the CAP demo!). This is what I've been doing instead, gaming-wise... Hanging out with friends! Sightseeing! Tossing priests into fountains for good luck! And now with that bit of off-topicness over, I've finished everything there is to do in AC: Brotherhood (boo) and will probably be returning to Sims until November. So maybe I will have some actual Sims-related screenshots soon!

Okay, so I played for about five minutes and...this is not going to work. Suddenly my computer is overheating like whoa and the game is getting jumpy and taking its sweet time whenever it has to load textures on a new lot. I don't get it. It was fine two days ago. I did get two random screenshots when I checked in on my various households, but that's all. "Your face is so stupid that it makes my face do stupid things!"I am worried. If my computer is going to overheat, how will I update my blog? Or play Skyrim? Or watch stupid videos on Youtube?

Sho, and the thing is.. I've seen a picture and the dogs (and thus, most likely the cats) have the blur in Sims 3 now, too. I know in Sims 2 the dogs crouched a bit to pee, but you still never saw anything streaming. I am perfectly fine with a horse pausing to pee and there just being the noise and the puddle appearing beneath it. Because that blur is ridiculous. Hm, I haven't tried a sphynx, and I don't think I saw one in the pre-mades.. but they have odd coated breeds like the devon rex, so I would imagine you should be able to make something /close/ to a sphynx, although it may not be exact. I am actually very impressed with Create a Pet, as it looks like it will be an amazing tool in the hands of people more talented than I am, lulz. There are a few things that I wish were better, but overall it seems pretty nice once oyu get the hang of it@ As for the demo and its cruddiness... there may be suggestions/fixes on the forum I linked to now that it's been out for a day. I checked my game and I didn't lose any of my other saves and it looks like most of my store content is still there (I'll have to double check later). Yay, Brotherhood screenshots! Those games are always so pretty. <3 Lulz at priests in a fountain. XD But OH NOES about computer overheating. D: I hope it's just having an off day and won't affect further playing or anything. Or Skyrim. If I am going to play Skyrim (and I keep looking at pictures and reading things and going OH SO PURDY) I will need your help so I don't kill off whatever guy I make in the first three seconds when I will probably be attacked by some random wolf or monster! Threaten your computer with physical violence! That's what I always do! (PS: those two screenshots feature very awesome faces, though, lulz. I did not know someones eyes could move that way with their eyebrows doing that!) Maybe I will get unlazy and post some of my own non-Sims screenshots. Although I JUST ordered the new Harvest Moon for DS (was waiting for the 3DS version but it has been delayed YET AGAIN and I am impatient and with my Amazon credit it was only $10 and $10 > waiting a month and spending $20 for a game with very very few very very minor differences) and that may distract me but we need to keep this thread alive for PETS.

AS AN ASIDE: YES. #HufflepuffIsTheBestHouse #GroupHugHouse My wand is awesome, too: larch (which I had to look up because I had no clue WTF larch was) with a phoenix feather core, 10 inches, surprisingly swishy.

Yeah, magically appearing puddles sound like a much better alternative to the giant censor bars. Especially since the censor bars have a habit of clipping through things in the most irritating ways possible! The Assassin's Creed games are pretty! I cannot wait for Revelations. After playing Brotherhood I have no doubt whatsoever that it will be awesome, although I suspect there will be a distinct lack of Caterina Sforza. My computer has even been idling really, really hot for no apparent reason, but right now it seems fine. I'm glad! I hope it stays fine for Skyrim, because I am even more hyped up for that than I am for Revelations. If you do get it, it will probably not be too difficult to make a decent character. It was pretty easy in Oblivion. (...Or is it just the mods I installed to make the process better?) And seriously, if that sim rolls her eyes any further they'll pop right out of her head. XD I want to know my Hogwarts House! Where did you get it?

Pottermore: www.pottermore.com! Although I don't think it opens to the public for another week. I was one of the 1 million "early access" beta tester people. And by "early access" I mean that they've admitted that everyone was supposed to have been admitted already, but I only JUST got in on Friday evening. It's... interesting. For me, I just wanted to be able to take an "official" sorting test to see what house it put me in (although I suspect there must be some trickery going on behind the scenes to keep the numbers in each house sort of even, because they're all pretty close in numbers). And the bonus info from JK Rowling is nice (the stuff on McGonagall is AWESOME) but it's pretty 'eh' otherwise. Besides going through the story (first book only right now), there are a couple activities to do, but one is down and potions is... glitchy and sometimes frustrating. BUT I KNOW WHICH HOUSE I OFFICIALLY BELONG TO AND THAT'S ALL I REALLY WANTED. I hope in the book that introduces the patronus they do a test to tell us what our patronus would be, 'cause that would be awesome too. <3 Anyway! Also! Speaking of Skyrim-but-not-actually-Skyrim, someone on the SA Skyrim thread posted a link to www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Hallgerd%27s_Tale and I have no idea of the context or WTF it even really is (it says it's a book?) but it made me laugh and it was awesome. OK SIMS. So, Twallen made a "jailbreak" mod for the Pets demo, allowing us to create the pets in create a pet and then put them on a lot to watch them walk around and such, so I took a couple pictures. Because everything is so stripped down there's... really not much that they can actually do. Since the programming for their interactions doesn't really exist, given this isn't the actual Pets expansion, and because the demo contains none of the info for human sims, you can't make sims that will interact with the pets, and the pets can't interact with each other or even... anything, since most objects don't even show up. So, you pretty much watch them stand there, fail to interact with one another (they try, but get the THERE IS SOMETHING IN MY WAY sign in their thought bubbles) and run around. Still, it's the pets in motion, so that's nice to see! Italian greyhound (I think) running around. Ignore the carpet; the ground cover painting was a really busy grass pattern and it hurt my eyes and made the pets hard to see to me. So I just covered most of the lot with carpet (although I left some plain grass to see if the horses would graze). An Abyssinian cat, who I called Msasi just for the hell of it, rolling around. A horse 'digging around' or something, and a cat. Ahahahaha, Msasi. Yes, you. Horses again. The paint's tail was mid-swish. The Italian greyhound "guarding the lot." Horse.. eating a newspaper. I could tell them to graze, but they kept failing out of the action. Run, Msasi, run! THE BLUR. The horses were the only ones I could make pee, as the dogs and cats kept failing out of the action. Horse drinking from a pond. The dog would, too (didn't try a cat). Tried to build a pool to see if the dog would swim, but building the pool kept making the game crash. Horse running around. The thought bubble is from the invisible human sim on the lot (since you can't make place an animal-only family on a lot by themselves, so I had to place a sim in the Sim Library onto the lot, then merge the pets I'd created in with that sim... but human sim data does not exist in the pet demo, so.. no sim!) and the little image above the horse is about one of its traits (Untrained). Horse running again. I thought the animations for both the dogs, cats and horses were (for the most part) nice. The horse walking animation, however, looks... stiff? Or almost (but not quite) like it's some sort of dressage-type walk, with the horse not taking a normal, walking step. I've seen the same animation in some of the more recent videos that came out and thought the same thing. It looks odd to me. But, I suppose if it's not something they fix, I can live with it, as the horses look beautiful in motion otherwise! www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUrVGkLyeKk&feature=relatedYou get a small shot of the walking animation in this video (the grey horse). Most of the new videos I'm finding focus on the horses /running/, which I think looks beautiful, and not the walking. I'm horrible with the video or I'd try to get a video of the walking myself! www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQZ22gllfw8The end of this video also has a very, very tiny bit of walking (before it kicks up into the gallop). Does it look odd to anyone else? Maybe I'm just not as familiar with horses... but it looks weird to me!

Since I don't know what the current state of the Pets demo is or if you guys have installed or are planning to install it, I was going to take pictures of all the pre-made breeds to show you guys! But there are a LOT of pre-made breeds and I don't want to waste time taking pictures of them all if you guys don't want to see them all. XD So, do you wanna see them all? Or just some? I could make a list of all the breeds for each (big dog, little dog, cat and horse) and post pictures of the ones you guys are most interested in? Any way works for me, and I don't mind taking pictures of all of them, they'd just get spread out over the next... several days, probably, since it's a lot of pictures. Let me know!

I can't even get to Pottermore right now! It's inaccessible due to overwhelming demand, apparently. If it's getting this much traffic and it's not even open yet, I can't imagine what it will be like when it goes live. I'll have to try and get in when it does though. I want to know my House too, dammit! It is, indeed, a book! All the book clutter objects in TES games are readable. It's kind of terrible, really, because I can never leave the damned things alone without cracking them open. If you have a mind to do more reading on the wiki, or if you do get Skyrim and find them in-game, Palla and A Dance in Fire are both every bit as good as "real" books. ARGH, that blur. It is going to drive me crazy. It's way more distracting than magically-appearing puddles. Hahaha, in the first video the Staffie did that thing dogs do where they try to break their own neck stretching it out. XD I agree, the animations mostly look good and fluid! But with regards to the horses, something about the walking animation does seem...dressage-y. I did find a longer video showing it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ6jOJrGqyM&feature=relatedAnd a video of a real horse just walking, no fancy gaits: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfPTCpBhhMA&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLC05E17C6A8CDA56AIt's like the horse just sort of minces along, and the plank-straight arch of the neck looks unnatural to me. Then again, I know nothing about riding, so it could be normal for all I know! Personally, I'd like to see the Doberman, German Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Akita, Rottweiler and the Norwegian Forest Cat and Scottish Fold. I would like to see them all, but those are the ones I might take an interest in making when the expansion is out. Also, maybe a size comparison between the large breed Pit and the small breed Pit? Why is there a "Labradoodle" but no Labrador? What the hell is a Labradinger? I am disappoint, EA. If people want designer mutts they can just breed them ingame. And no Malinois? Well, I guess I know what my first pet-making project will be.

Yeah, for some reason today has been absolutely AWFUL with the site being inaccessible almost all freaking day. Which has been annoying because I am trying to brew potions (which are time sensitive) and they keep failing because I'll get in, start a potion, and then not be able to access the thing for a couple hours. Gah! Hopefully they will spend this next week beefing up the servers, because the site is going to get hammered harder than this once it opens for real. D: Ooh, I'll have to look those up! I've been looking at the wiki today sort of reading up on some of the different lore stuff they have just to get myself in the head space, but there seems to be quite a lot! Which I guess makes since if Skyrim is the fifth game or whatever. XD Ahaha, I almost posted that same Sims 3 horse walking video you posted, but wasn't sure if it showed off the walk well enough since whoever is playing spent so much time speeding the game up. XD But mince! Yes, that is a good word to describe it. It isn't smooth and easy like a normal walking horse gait looks like. ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE. Although, first... any of the dogs that look like their fur is a bit.. stringy? That's just a fur density slider. Looks good for dogs that are supposed to have more wispy or wirey coats, I think, but can look odd on others. But just moving the fur density slider will make them look better if you don't like that look. I demonstrated on the collie. The original is on the left, the adjusted is on the right: Onto the breeds... Akita! Bernese Mountain Dog! Eh, could use some work. These are just the pre-mades exactly as they appear in CAP, no editing. I'd make the Berner a tad bulkier, with a bit more fluff, I think, and maybe make the tan more rusty colored. Berners are my second favorite breed! Doberman! German Shepherd! Rottweiler! ...There is a stubby tail AND a normal long tail so I don't know why they gave it a curly tail? Norweigan Forest Cat! Scottish Fold! Small breed Pitbull and large breed Pitbull. The small one is essentially just a recolored Bull Terrier (dear EA: THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING). I tried to get them closer together for a better picture, but they kept attempting to interact with things and moving away (or the big Pit would groom itself and not be standing up straight!). Small breed Pit (the tan) with the Bull Terrier (the one thinking about Loch Ness). I heart Bull Terriers. Might post more breeds later... or if y'all wanna see moar, just ask!

And a bonus, just 'cause he did it when I went back into the game to close it down before bed: Bull Terrier bringing in the newspaper. C: He took it to the (invisible) sim who must have taken it from him because he had the paper one moment and the next he didn't. XD (There really isn't much the pets can do since the expansion stuff/coding doesn't exist, so when the paper appeared on the lot all three dogs SWARMED the paper to interact with it)

Srsly. It looks like it's already getting hit harder than NaNo at the beginning of November. At least Rowling can afford to get an entire fleet of beefy servers, I suppose! There is so much lore in TES games that it is not even funny, and so much of it is crammed into books that you might not even come across while you're playing. I guess it's part of the effort to create a world that feels real and believable and alive, since they're basically giant sandboxes. It works amazingly well, at least on me! Yeah, the Bernese Mountain Dog could do with some decrapifying. Not only does it need bulking up and a lot more fluffiness, it needs some red on the face. XD The Dobe could use some work too, I think. It looks a bit...greenish? And not very glossy. My dog has a short, sleek "eyelash-like" coat somewhat similar to a Dobe's and if it looked that dull I'd be worried! Maybe pets are the opposite of sims and look better in-game than they do in CAP, though. Some Rottweilers do have what is called a "saber" tail, but it does not look like that. In fact, that tail would be a disqualification in the show ring. Nice going, EA! www.donnerbergrottweilers.com/graphics/rottweiler-tail-standard/rottweiler-tail-standard.jpgI'm happy to see the Scottish Fold ears! If only there was a leg slider I could make a munchkin cat with foldy ears and then die of cuteness. The tiny "Pit"... *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk* Ok, it is standing next to the big one and they look nothing alike, so even if EA has no idea what Pits are supposed to look like, how did they not notice the schism there? It's so cute bringing in the paper, though! Poor thing can barely hold it. ;D Thanks for the screenshots! Now I am even more impatient to play this game, if only to see if I can fix the stuff that is bugging me. And I managed to play a bit. Got lots of pictures. They are at my blog here, because I am too lazy to take all that HTML and convert it into Proboards tags. XD

Yeah, the servers for Pottermore have been AWFUL today (and yesterday, but today has been even worse). They had best beef up the servers quickly, if they plan to open in the next week or so or it's going to be absolutely ridiculous. Thanks for pointing out those two books on the Elder Scrolls wiki, Sho! I read them both today (it took me pretty much all day because I would read read read.. and then come across a word and go WTF IS THAT and follow the link to another wiki page to read about it and then on THAT page find a word and go WTF is THAT? and in the end I would be 15 pages away from the book I had been reading and I decided that wiki is like TV Tropes but with more monsters). ANYWAY I read them and they were awesome. Some of the greenish tint maaaay be some of the lighting in CAP/maybe some sort of ambient thing from that barn setting? My thought on looking at the breeds was some look awesome, but the ones that don't look like they can, for the most part, be fixed with a little work on the part of the player. I was going to post a picture example, but I'll have to do that tomorrow instead (tiiiiired) but a lot of the small breeds come to mind when thinking about needing some adjustments, as some really seem to suffer from having ginormous heads compared to their bodies. Which, yes, is true in some cases in reality, but just looks.. funky.. in game. Some of the large breeds also have heads that seem too SMALL. Or proportions need to be adjusted because, as you can't edit body length or leg length, just adjusting the neck length/size can make the rest of the body look odd. And no, no snakes/birds/small pets in CAP. Those I THINK can be bought (or the cages can be bought/stocked like in S2) bu with the Hunter skill, dogs and cats can sometimes bring one home with them, too. I think a sim might be able to find them out in the wild themselves (sort of like a collectable). I love your update, especially the pictures of the guys eating the fish over the fire. And just a lot of Stanley's facial expressions in general. XD Oh, and the random strangers coming to shower and eat as they wish. XD
